Cross Creek Ranch is located in Vinita, in the northeast section of Green Country, Oklahoma, right off I-44, The "Will Rogers Turnpike". It is a lovely property comprised of 90 acres of gently rolling pastures and hay fields, dotted with big shade trees, all fenced and cross-fenced. There are two wide creeks. Locust Creek crosses the southwest section and Burke's Creek, home of big bass and bigger herons, crosses the northwest section. The creek bottoms are flat limestone rocks and gravel affording good crossing for horses and tractors. Previously a cattle and horse ranch, since our arrival in May of 2005, we have replaced many feet of barbed wire with safe, horse friendly fencing. We've also added a 12 stall, center aisle stable for the horses in training as well as turn-out sheds in all the pastures. Our mare "motel" consists of 8 box stalls opening into a 24x72 foot covered loafing area with a separate 2 stall foaling barn, which will be equipped with closed circuit TV to save on those nightly mare watch treks. The stallions each have their own 4-5 acre pastures and 12x16 stalls.
We have already marked off a large grass riding and jumping area, as well as started building cross country jumps for schooling.
The farm is located on at the intersection of two dead end dirt roads, and is surrounded by gorgeous open ranch properties. From the top of one hill on the neighbor's land it seems like you can see all the way to California!! We are actually located at the home site of the infamous Dalton Gang and close to their big, hideaway cave! Ma Barker and her sons are buried in a little cemetery in Vinita. Just one mile off Historic Route 66, the California to Michigan highway made famous on the old TV program, we are just a short way from Grand Lake, a 60,000+ acre man-made, resort lake with over 1,300 miles of waterfront shoreline. The lake is created by the Pensacola Dam, the world's longest multiple arch dam, spanning one mile. This area of Oklahoma was Will Rogers birthplace and home land and many rodeos and other celebrations go on year round.
We are located an hour or less from Coal Valley Fox Hounds to the north and Harvard Fox Hounds to the south. The huge show horse complex at the Tulsa State Fair Grounds, home of many Breed "World Shows" is 50 miles to the south and Claremore Expo Horse Complex, just 35 miles to the south, all accessed from I-44.
Vinita, Oklahoma supports its cowboy and western heritage and is the home of the Historic Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo, "Big Country Weekend" and the World's Largest Calf Fry Festival and Cook-off, each held annually, along with regularly scheduled rodeo events. Vinita is also home of the World's Largest McDonalds, which is built over all four lanes of I-44!
